THE MIRROR HOUSE
When I put my hands up and laughed,
You followed suit (ha!)
When I swung my arm around,
So did you (you swung yours)
When I turned around and ran,
You started running too (ha!)
Whether I point my finger, act shy, or do a handstand [1]
No matter what I do (it went on)
Even if I tried to move forward
You will only follow behind
Did I make a misstep somewhere?
This hallway keeps going on
This is a MIRROR HOUSE
Where everything becomes the same
Where is the OTHER SIDE
Even that appearance and voice, identical to mine
This is a MIRROR HOUSE
Where I see myself
Where is the OTHER SIDE
Anything and everything for this one-man play
I’m obviously going around in circles now
After all, you and I are one in the same
Even as I stop moving all of a sudden
And hold my pose (piece of cake)
I put on a sad act
And cover up my eyes
But you played sad too
Once again (not a single change)
Somebody is calling for me
Somebody is calling for me
I’m sorry but I’ll have to go
Let's do that, let's do that
This is a MIRROR HOUSE
Home of shattered individuality [2]
Where is the OTHER SIDE
Even what lies ahead; it’s all the same
This is a MIRROR HOUSE
Where I sneer with myself
Where is the OTHER SIDE
In this one-man play until the end
Look carefully, there is no “real”
And no fake either
Once you realize that
You’ve already made it out
This is a MIRROR HOUSE
Farewell to the illusions
Where is the OTHER SIDE
So I could walk a different path
This is a MIRROR HOUSE
Let’s wave each other goodbye
Where is the OTHER SIDE
Anything and everything in this one-man play
Notes:
[1] “Even if I stand on my hands” is a saying used to mean “No matter what I do.”
[2] more literally, "where one breaks apart" but I was worried it will come off as one in "oneself" when it's more about the concept of being a single thing/being.
