Notes:

[1] This could easily be two different sentences (I was berated + the dogs are sleeping) but I suspect the use of the word “dog” here is meant to evoke 負け犬 which is another way to say loser, and the whole thing would be metaphorical.

2- I translated 魔物 as “devil” just to stay consistent with Sunshine of My Shoulder, but it can be a demon or a monster etc.
